One Month Down…

So, it’s been exactly a month since I arrived here in London. Since my last post, I’ve managed to get enough of my life organized that it doesn’t quite feel like I’ve just moved countries anymore. Most of the boring stuff is done for the time being. I’ve got a National Insurance Number and a bank account. I have finally memorized my phone number and post code, and I’ve even started working again (even if it’s only a temporary consulting job for my old company).

The past couple of weeks, S and I have been busy trying to finalize wedding number two, which has somehow snuck up on us. Because of the whole moving and house renovation process, we didn’t really get to spend too much time thinking about the second wedding. Now, it’s then days away and I think we just about have it sorted out (thanks mostly to the MiL and FiL keeping us on track). I’m especially excited for next weekend because my family will be coming to London for the first time. It will be interesting to actually have people visiting me. I’m not sure I actually know London well enough yet to show other people around, but I am excited to visit all the tourist sites again after a couple of years (although I’m sure I’ll be regretting that statement after several more rounds of visitors over the next year or so).

I had planned on writing a few different posts on some of my firsts since moving here, but as usual, time flew by while I was getting settled. Instead, here are just a few of the highlights of my first month in the UK:

My first Arsenal match with my new season ticket. I love how crazy the atmosphere is at the matches. I just need to start learning the chants…

S convinced me to do a bit of sightseeing on my own (which I hate), so I took a trip down to  London Bridge, saw the Globe, and walked along the Thames. It was beautiful weather that day. I don’t know where all the sun has gone since then…

We did surprisingly well (finished 3rd out of 5 teams) for only having two people (and an American) on our team. I need to start studying British trivia and current events for next time.

Now I just have to learn how to cook one myself! That’s on the agenda for month two.
